"Manic" by Terri Cheney

This one appealed to be huge because she worked in the field of law and dealt with mental illness. Before reading this book, I thought I knew a little bit about what bi-polar might feel like. I had no idea. This book does a good job of bringing the reader into the author's world without preaching or losing the little bits of humor that can come with an existence that isn't always kind.

Phrases by Cheney

From "Manic" by Terri Cheney:

my greatest victories have always been surrenders

I was ready, rattle snake ready

saints are always just a stumble away from sinners

"The Sound of No Hands Clapping" by Toby Young

I'm not sure how I feel about this book yet. It made me giggle. It was revealing as to how the entertainment industry works. But I didn't feel particularly moved by anything in it.

Phrases by Young

From "The Sound of No Hands Clapping" by Toby Young:

nerve shredding

...looking as wise as a tree full of owls.

"The Tipping Point - How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference" - by Malcolm Gladwell.

Really interesting examination of trends, viral phenomenon, economics, epidemics, etc. Written in plain language, so non-mathematical minds like mine can grasp the concepts. I am now especially fascinated with the concept of 150.

"The Hollow Earth" by David Standish

Fantastic examination of noggin bending theories about a hollow Earth through history. This is exactly the kind of lunacy I adore. I am forever fascinated at how these theories emerge and who picks them up and runs with them.

Phrases by Standish

From "The Hollow Earth by David Standish:

charmingly delusional

...little too corned up at the tavern.

global parfait

scary old wine in new bottles

mutant appeal

cartographical necropolis of brave futility

"My Boring Ass Life" - By Kevin Smith.

Kevin Smith writes and shares about his life so openly, honestly and profoundly that I nearly thought it was a Hollywood gimmick. And then I realized that even if it were later found to be so, that I didn't care. It's that good.
